Salty (Digestive) Lassi

In addition to the Mango Lassi smoothie I provided for the Features article, An Ayurveda Summer of Ojas and Ama below are three more delicious treats from Dr. Suhas Kshirsagar’s book, The Hot Belly Diet.


1. Coconut-Cucumber Smoothie


1/2 small cucumber

1/2 cup - unsweetened organic coconut milk

1/2 cup - organic rice milk

1 1/2 cups - chopped watercress

1/2 tsp - maple syrup


Juice the cucumber in a juicer.

Pour the cucumber juice into a blender and add the remaining ingredients. Blend until smooth.

Pour the smoothie into a chilled glass and drink.



2. Salty (Digestive) Lassi


1/2 cup - organic plain yogurt

1 1/2 cups - water

1/2 tsp - cumin seeds

1/4 tsp - salt

3-4 fresh leaves - of mint or 1-2 stems of cilantro/coriander 


Mix all the ingredients in a blender until smooth. Serve in a chilled glass.


3. Superfood Smoothie


2/3 cup - unsweetened almond milk or rice milk (no soy)

2 scoops - protein powder in the form of whey isolate, hemp seed protein powder, or brown rice protein powder

1 Tbsp - whole flexed, shelled hemp seeds, or raw sunflower seeds, and a small handful of blueberries, raspberries, or blackberries

Pinch of cinnamon, pinch of nutmeg, and/or pinch of cardamom powder (choose two of these three)


Mix all the ingredients in a blender. Serve in a chilled glass.
